It has been an interesting few months for
our family. As some of you already know, I was diagnosed with thyroid
cancer in March, and on April 28th, my thyroid was removed.
Then for the next two months, as my body prepared for radioactive iodine
treatment, I received no thyroid replacement for almost two months.
This meant I became increasingly tired, and pretty useless.
Don was a real sport, and worked long hours
at the office, taking over many of my responsibilities, along with his
own…not to mention, putting up with me! He really was terrific. I
did manage to make it into the office every week, to update our weekly
e-mail newsletters, along with sending out our monthly newsletter.
Then on June 22, I was finally given the
treatments, and had to stay isolated for several days. The good news,
thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable cancers, and I am back to
work, and doing great!
I’d like to mention that the cancer was
first detected when Don and I took a routine ultra sound health
screening, offered by our local Realtor association. We’d never
participated in such a testing before. I had absolutely no clue that
anything was wrong until that test, and I urge all of you to take
advantage of such opportunities. It could very well save your
life.
In spite of the medical distractions, our
family celebrated some wonderful events during this same time. On
June 16th our daughter, Elizabeth, graduated, with honors
(forgive a mom for bragging a little!) from the Art Institute, in San
Diego. She now has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Graphic
Design.
