Lake Havasu City

Free HAT Service for Trolley Inauguration
Havasu Area Transit (HAT) is offering a “Free
Ride Day” for the inauguration of the Lake Havasu City Trolley
Service. On Friday, July 1, all HAT buses and trolleys will operate free of
charge. Citizens and visitors are encouraged to park their cars and take a
free bus ride to work, shop or just to enjoy the day in Lake Havasu City.
Lake Havasu City received
four Classic American Trolleys from the Northern Arizona Intergovernmental
Public Transit Authority (NAIPTA), located in Flagstaff, Arizona. NAIPTA is
the public transit operating authority for the Flagstaff area, the City of
Cottonwood, and the City of Sedona, where the trolleys have been in
operation since 2006. No local funding was required for the trolley
acquisition due to the trolleys being under a federal government lien. The
trolleys will provide service to all island resorts, Site Six, London Bridge
Beach, lower Swanson Avenue, McCulloch Boulevard North, and the medical
corridor near Havasu Regional Medical Center. A ribbon cutting ceremony is
planned for June 30, 2011, at City Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. HAT will now
service 113 bus stops located around Lake Havasu City, Desert Hills and the
Shops at Lake Havasu. On July 1, the Red, Brown, and Blue routes will be
operating hourly from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., Green route (Shops at Lake Havasu)
will operate 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and the new Trolley Service will operate
every thirty minutes, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Routes and schedules are available
from any HAT driver, City Hall, the Interagency Council, the Lake Havasu
City website at www.lhcaz.gov, or by calling HAT dispatch at 453-7600.
Also on July 1, Havasu
Area Transit’s “Top Hat” Curb-to-Curb service is offered free to
pre-qualified seniors and disabled persons on a first-come, first-served
basis. A 24-hour advanced reservation is requested as seats are limited.
